Whitby rips Stouffville, 5-1

The Stouffville Spirit had trouble finding ways to stop the Whitby Fury, which beat Spirit, 5-1.

Whitby was led by Luke Keenan, who had one goal and one assist. Keenan scored on the power play 19:46 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Whitby. The Fury had taken the advantage when Stouffville's Christopher Brill-Morgan got sent off for hooking. Rylee McKinnon picked up the assist.

Whitby's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Stouffville power plays. The Spirit were unable to stop the Fury from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Whitby additionally got points from Jacob Durham, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Whitby included Steven Elliott, Scott Kirton, and Ryan Taylor, who scored one goal each. In addition, Whitby received assists from Nik Coric, Kennedy Duguid, Zack Fisher, Jonathan OHara, Ryan Porter, Austin Ulett, and Jeffrey Gauld, who each chipped in one.

Stouffville did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Spirit put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

Daniel Mannella recorded 24 saves for the Fury. Whitby incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Fury, Ryan Heeps was ejected from the game. Stouffville's Aaron Taylor stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Spirit incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
