Coric's big game bests Orangeville in 5-2 Whitby win

Nik Coric was all over the ice for the Whitby Fury, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Whitby's 5-2 win over the Orangeville Flyers.

Coric scored at 5:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby and again while 4:34 into the second to make the score 2-2.

The Fury put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Orangeville to score on any of its four power plays.

Whitby also got points from Brock Welsh, who also registered one goal and two assists and Scott Kirton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ryan Taylor also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Greg Allen, Luke Keenan, Jonathan OHara, and Justin Brand, who contributed one each.

The Flyers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Orangeville finished below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flyers forced Whitby goalie Daniel Mannella to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Orangeville was helped by Callum Cusinato, who tallied one goal. Cusinato scored 2:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Orangeville. Liam Winslow assisted on the tally. Orangeville also got a goal from Kosta Likourezos as well. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Derek Topatigh and Matthew Barnes, who each chipped in one.

Mannella recorded 29 saves for the Fury. Whitby incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Flyers' Nicholas Latinovich stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced.
