Newmarket survives Cobourg comeback, wins 3-1

The Cobourg Cougars tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Newmarket Hurricanes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1.

Newmarket made the score 3-0 on a goal by Ryan Young at 7:28 in the third period, and Cobourg got as close as 3-1 when Russell Nowry scored 17:22 into the third period.

The Hurricanes were paced by Marty Lawlor, who finished with one goal and one assist. Lawlor scored 4:12 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Newmarket. Young picked up the assist.

Newmarket additionally got points from Young, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Mark Rozanov as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Jonathan Colley, who had two and Andrew Breda and Todd Winder, who contributed one each.

The Cougars stifled Newmarket's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cobourg did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Cougars put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.

More assists for Cobourg came via Matt Carroll, who had one.

Dalton Ewing made 18 saves for the Hurricanes on 19 shots. Newmarket incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cobourg's Stefano Durante stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
