Buffalo outlasts Oakville, 4-2

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres and the Oakville Blades were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Buffalo made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Andrew Pizzo at 12:57 of the third period.

Brenden Dunning had two goals to lead the Jr. Sabres to victory. Dunning's tallies came at 8:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo and 19:19 into the third to make the score 4-2 Buffalo.

Buffalo forced Blades' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 35 shots and forcing 31 saves. Michael Botiz made six stops and Brendan McGlynn made 25.

Bryce Ferrell also scored for Buffalo. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Tim Nicksic, Mitchell Spring, Christian DiFelice, David Baskerville, Joshua Biasillo, and Griffin Lunn, who each chipped in one.

Oakville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Sabres to score on any of their six power plays. The Blades could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Oakville was helped by Paul Butler, who tallied one goal. Butler scored 7:28 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Eric Holland assisted on the tally. Oakville also got a goal from Drew Worrad as well. More assists for Oakville came via Patrick Kudla, Ryan Foss, and Ryan Garvey, who contributed one each.

Tucker Weppner rejected 21 shots on goal for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Blades registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
