Markham downs Whitby, 5-2

Marco Azzano had one point to lead the Markham Royals to a 5-2 victory over the Whitby Fury.

Markham managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Royals ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Markham's offense rang up 32 shots on Whitby's net.

Markham also got points from Aaron Spivak, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Tyson Bruce, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Markham also had goals scored by Rylee St. Onge and Hudson Michaelis, who each put in one. More assists for Markham came via Cooper Hyman, Shawn Tessier, Jeff Joynt, Brandon Washer, and Nick Thomakos, who each chipped in one.

The Fury were helped by Zach Viminitz, who grabbed one goal. Viminitz scored 11:30 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Markham. Luke Keenan provided the assist. Whitby additionally got points from Keenan, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Whitby received assists from Ryan Sarris and Scott Kirton, who contributed one each.

Marcus Semiao made 18 saves for the Royals on 20 shots. Markham registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Daniel Mannella rejected 27 shots on goal for Whitby. The Fury incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors and had no power play opportunities.
