Toronto Patriots' comeback falls short, Cobourg wins 5-3

The Cobourg Cougars came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Toronto Patriots Patriots, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Cobourg led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cougars' Kallen McFarland scored at 3:53 in the second period to put Cobourg up 4-0.

Toronto Patriots was unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Cobourg eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

The Cougars were led by Mac Lowry, who registered one goal and one assist. Lowry scored on the power play 15:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg. Cobourg had taken the advantage when the Patriots' Josh Chiarot got sent off for high sticking. Matt Watson picked up the assist. Cobourg additionally got points from McFarland, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cobourg included Connor Inger, Matt Carroll, and Russell Nowry, who each put in one. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Sam Dunn, who had two and Ryan OGrady, Matt Goeree, Brett Primeau, Ryan Casselman, and Theo Lewis, who contributed one each.

Toronto Patriots' offense rang up 39 shots on the Cougars' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Patriots were helped by Michael Siddall, who had one goal. Siddall scored on the power play 14:35 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Cobourg. Toronto Patriots had gained a power play chance when OGrady was whistled for interference. Nicholas Ursitti provided the assist. Toronto Patriots also got points from Louis DiMatteo, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mario Ferraro also scored for Toronto Patriots. More assists for Toronto Patriots came via Jake Harris and Jeremy Pullara, who each chipped in one.

Stefano Durante made 36 saves for Cobourg on 39 shots. The Cougars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Patriots' Sean OReilly stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Toronto Patriots incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
