Trenton downs Whitby in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Trenton Golden Hawks pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Whitby Fury on a clutch goal by Blayne Oliver.

Trenton came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Golden Hawks trailed 5-3 after a goal by Whitby's Jacob Durham at 2:20 in the third period. Trenton knotted things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Kevin Lavoie at 19:49 in the third period.

The Golden Hawks got the win behind a great game by Hunter Fargey, who had one goal and two assists. Fargey scored on the power play 13:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Trenton earned a power play opportunity when Kevin Dimagno was put in the box for holding. Adam Clements assisted on the tally.

The Fury were unable to stop the Golden Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Trenton eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The Golden Hawks' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Trenton gives up 1.8 goal per game.

Trenton also got points from Mitch Emerson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Lavoie, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Trenton included Liam Morgan and Nicholas Turenko, who scored one goal each. In addition, Trenton received assists from Danny Hanlon, who had two and Chays Ruddy, Ben Scheel, and Ryan Smith, who each chipped in one.

Whitby could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Fury were helped by Luke Keenan, who racked up two goals. Keenan scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Whitby had taken the advantage when the Golden Hawks' Ruddy got sent off for holding. Scott Kirton picked up the assist. Keenan's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Whitby with 7:14 left in the second period. Ryan Taylor assisted on the tally. Whitby additionally got points from Nik Coric, who also registered one goal and one assist and Kirton, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Whitby came via Zach Viminitz, Jonathan OHara, Ryan Porter, and Brock Welsh, who contributed one each.

Trenton took out Jackson McIntosh after he had made seven saves and installed Daniel Urbani in goal, where he finished with 15 saves and the win. The Golden Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Fury's Daniel Mannella stopped 42 shots out of the 48 that he faced. Whitby registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
