Markham falls to Lindsay after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Lindsay Muskies battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over the Markham Royals.

Lindsay never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Muskies trailed 2-0 after a goal by Markham's Jeff Joynt at 3:00 in the second period. Lindsay tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Nick Isaacson at 11:14 in the second period. The Muskies scored the game winner at 12:22 in the second period on a goal by Isaacson.

Lindsay was paced on offense by Dayton Kent and Brock Traill, who combined for four points. Kent had two goals and one assist and Traill also added one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:33 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Royals were unable to stop the Muskies from sending pucks towards the net, and Lindsay eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Lindsay also got points from Isaacson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Lindsay were Cedric Ralph, who had two and Kristopher Diclemente, Brandon Washer, and Jeff Christensen, who contributed one each.

Markham was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Royals had been spending in the box. Markham excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Royals' offense rang up 41 shots on the Muskies' net.

Aaron Spivak also scored for Markham. More assists for Markham came via Marco Azzano, who had two and Brendan Valko, Lucas Condotta, and Tyson Bruce, who each chipped in one.

Boyd Diclemente recorded 38 saves for Lindsay. The Muskies ended with 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors. Team's Diclemente and Braeden Kublick were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Markham's Eric Pitcher stopped 40 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Royals registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For Markham, Khadyn Butterfly and Nick Thomakos were ejected from the contest.
