Cobourg wins tough contest against Burlington, 3-2

The game between the Cobourg Cougars and the Burlington Cougars was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Cobourg emerged with a 3-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Matt Carroll's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Cougars were sparked by Carroll, who grabbed one goal. Carroll scored 6:34 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cobourg. Brenden Locke provided the assist.

Cobourg kept Burlington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Austin Washkurak made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Cobourg also had goals scored by Connor Inger and Rory Milne, who each put in one. More assists for Cobourg came via Ryan OGrady, Josh Argier, Brett Primeau, Mac Lowry, and Theo Lewis, who contributed one each.

The Cougars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their four power plays. Cobourg was unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Burlington was helped by Nathan Gomes, who tallied one goal. Gomes scored on the power play 2:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. The Cougars had taken the advantage when the Cougars' Russell Nowry got sent off for kneeing. Willy Paul assisted on the tally. Burlington also got a goal from Jordan Peacock as well. In addition, Burlington received assists from Ben Morris, Tyler Riter, and Jack Jeffers, who each chipped in one.

Cobourg's Stefano Durante stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Burlington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
