Washkurak stymies Toronto Jr. Canadiens, Burlington wins 4-1

Austin Washkurak had a standout game with 37 saves, and the Burlington Cougars beat the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens 4-1.

Burlington was led by Ben Morris, who had one goal. Morris scored 10:22 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Burlington. Jordan Peacock assisted on the tally.

The Cougars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Toronto Jr. Canadiens power plays. Burlington's offense rang up 41 shots on Toronto Jr. Canadiens' net.

Burlington additionally got points from Tyler Riter, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jack Jeffers also scored for Burlington. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were David Thomson, who had two and Willy Paul and Daniel Volpe, who each chipped in one.

The Junior Canadiens put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their four power plays. Toronto Jr. Canadiens did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Junior Canadiens put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Burlington was unable to stop Toronto Jr. Canadiens from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Canadiens eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens was led by Nico Gonzalez, who scored the team's only goal. Gonzalez scored 9:44 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Burlington. Andrew Pucci picked up the assist.

The Cougars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Daniel Lopapa rejected 37 shots on goal for the Junior Canadiens. Toronto Jr. Canadiens incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
