Kingston beats Whitby 5-0 as Richer gains shutout

David Richer recorded a shutout against the Whitby Fury as the Kingston Voyageurs picked up a 5-0 win.

Kingston was led by Jack Zielinski, who had one goal. Zielinski scored on the power play 10:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kingston. A slashing penalty on Ian McKinnon had put the Voyageurs on the power play. Anthony Rinaldi picked up the assist.

Kingston's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Whitby power plays. The Voyageurs featured an improved defense during the game. Kingston averages 2.9 goals allowed per game. The Voyageurs got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Kingston also got points from Jacob Hanlon, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Rinaldi, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Matthew Lourenco also scored for Kingston. In addition, Kingston received assists from Danny Bosio, who had one and Zachary Emelifeonwu, Reid Russell, and Ian Harris, who contributed two each.

Whitby was held below its usual level of production. The Fury put an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game. Whitby's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Fury finished with 36 penalty minutes.

David Richer made 26 saves for Kingston on 26 shots. The Voyageurs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Whitby's starting goalie, Daniel Mannella, made 12 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jordon White, who stopped 12 shots.
