Markham blows out Cobourg, 4-1

The Markham Royals had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Cobourg Cougars.

Markham got the win thanks to a great game by Nick Thomakos, who had two goals and one assist. Thomakos scored the first of his two goals at 1:10 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Markham. Hudson Michaelis assisted on the tally. Thomakos' next tally made the score 3-0 Markham with 14:36 left in the third period. Khadyn Butterfly picked up the assist.

The Royals were led by goalie Nathan Colitto, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal. Colitto certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.05 entering the contest.

Markham also got points from Michaelis, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Markham were Jason OConnor, Matthew Dunlop, and Rylee St. Onge, who contributed one each.

Cobourg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Cougars could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Cobourg puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Cougars forced Markham goalie Colitto to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Cobourg was led by Brenden Locke, who scored the team's only goal. Locke scored 10:46 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Markham. Brennan Roy provided the assist.

The Royals incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Cougars' Stefano Durante stopped 14 shots out of the 18 that he faced. Cobourg incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
