Newmarket rips Toronto Jr. Canadiens, 5-0

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens had trouble finding ways to stop the Newmarket Hurricanes, which beat Junior Canadiens, 5-0.

Jonathan Colley had two goals and one assist to lead Newmarket. Colley scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:54 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Newmarket. The Hurricanes earned a power play opportunity when Cody Symonds was put in the box for hooking. Adam Smith picked up the assist. Colley's next tally on the power play made the score 4-0 Newmarket with 10:59 left in the third period. A cross checking penalty on Jake Joffe had put Newmarket on the power play. Smith provided the assist.

The Hurricanes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Toronto Jr. Canadiens power plays. Newmarket's defensive play was more effective than usual against Toronto Jr. Canadiens. The Hurricanes average 2.8 goals allowed per game. Newmarket surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Hurricanes have scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Newmarket additionally got points from Curtis Harvey, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Newmarket included Max Routledge and Christian Cella, who scored one goal each. More assists for Newmarket came via Nick Kalpousos and Christian Dedonato, who contributed one each.

The Junior Canadiens could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Toronto Jr. Canadiens puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game.

Newmarket's Connor Ryckman stopped 23 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Daniel Lopapa made 23 saves for the Junior Canadiens on 28 shots. Toronto Jr. Canadiens incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
