Wellington wins tough contest against Oakville, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Wellington Dukes escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Oakville Blades.

Wellington gained the winning advantage on a goal by Luc Brown 41 seconds into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Dukes were sparked by Colin Doyle, who registered one goal. Doyle scored 14:45 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wellington. Austin Labelle picked up the assist.

Wellington forced Oakville goalie Michael Botiz to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Dukes capitalized on the Blades' penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage.

Wellington also got a goal from Ben Sokay as well. In addition, Wellington received assists from Shaw Boomhower, who had one and Jacob Panetta and Dylan Mascarin, who each chipped in two.

Oakville was led by Christian Rajic, who finished with one goal and one assist. Rajic scored 15:17 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wellington. Brayden Sampson assisted on the tally. Tyler Rollo also scored for Oakville. More assists for Oakville came via Patrick Kudla and Drew Worrad, who contributed one each.

Anthony Popovich rejected 19 shots on goal for Wellington. The Dukes incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Botiz recorded 30 saves for the Blades. Oakville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
