Buffalo rolls over Newmarket, 6-1

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Buffalo got the win behind a great game by Christian DiFelice, who had one goal and two assists. DiFelice scored 19:48 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Buffalo. David Baskerville assisted on the tally.

Newmarket was stymied by the Jr. Sabres' netminder Tucker Weppner, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Weppner managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.82 prior to the game.

Buffalo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Jr. Sabres' offense rang up 41 shots on the Hurricanes' net.

Buffalo also got points from Christopher Berger, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Andrew Pizzo, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Buffalo included Bryce Ferrell, Joshua Biasillo, and Griffin Lunn, who each put in one. More assists for Buffalo came via Aaron Reinig, Wilson Vershay, and Christian Zimmerman, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Hurricanes surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game.

Newmarket was led by Ryan Shaw, who scored the team's only goal. Shaw scored 7:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo. Ryan Young picked up the assist.

Buffalo incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. For the Jr. Sabres, Brenden Dunning was ejected from the game. Dalton Ewing recorded 35 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Christian Cella was ejected from the game.
