Markham rides Colitto to victory over Newmarket, 2-1

The Markham Royals relied on the sparkling performance of Nathan Colitto in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Markham was led by Lucas Condotta, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Condotta scored 16:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Markham. Jeff Joynt provided the assist.

The Royals kept Newmarket's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dalton Ewing made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Markham also got a goal from Nick Thomakos as well.

The Hurricanes stifled Markham's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Newmarket forced the Royals goalie Colitto to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Hurricanes were led by Nick Kalpousos, who scored the team's only goal. Kalpousos scored on the power play 13:51 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Newmarket earned a power play opportunity when Aaron Spivak was put in the box for slashing. Curtis Harvey picked up the assist.

Colitto rejected 32 shots on goal for Markham. The Royals incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
