Knoxville wins tough contest against Mississippi RiverKings, 3-2

The Knoxville Ice Bears gutted out a close 3-2 win against Mississippi RiverKings.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Berkley Scott secured the win for Knoxville with a goal in the third period.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Mississippi RiverKings faces elimination next time out.

The Ice Bears were led by Scott, who grabbed one goal. Scott scored 4:54 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Knoxville. Jason Price picked up the assist.

Penalties took their toll on Knoxville, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

Others who scored for Knoxville included Brett Valliquette and Dennis Sicard, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Sy Nutkevitch, Ryan Salvis, Matthew Paton, and Josh Cousineau, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Bears were unable to stop Mississippi RiverKings from sending pucks towards the net, and Mississippi RiverKings eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Leo Thomas, who registered one goal. Thomas scored on the power play 10:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Knoxville. Mississippi RiverKings earned a power play opportunity when Paton was put in the box for high sticking. Matt Whitehead provided the assist. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Bryon Paulazzo as well. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Daniel Sobotka, Matt Harrington, and Andrew Randazzo, who contributed one each.

Bryan Hince recorded 31 saves for Knoxville. The Ice Bears incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Peter Di Salvo made 14 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 17 shots. Mississippi RiverKings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
