The Elmira Sugar Kings took the lead against the LaSalle Vipers in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory. Elmira took over the lead for good with a goal by Steven Jakiela at 54 seconds in the first period. Mitch Klie picked up the assist.After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, LaSalle faces elimination next time out. The Sugar Kings were led by goalie Jonathan Reinhart, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Reinhart certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.94 entering the contest. Elmira was led by Marselis Subban, who registered one goal. Subban scored 7:49 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Elmira. Ethan Skinner assisted on the tally. The Sugar Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Vipers to score on any of their three power plays. Elmira also got a goal from Chad Herron as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Sam Harris and Alex Mutton, who contributed one each. LaSalle excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Vipers were led by Brendan Harrogate, who scored the team's only goal. Harrogate scored 7:26 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. Manny Silverio picked up the assist. Elmira incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. LaSalle's Paolo Battisti stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Vipers incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. |
