Carleton Place stifles Cornwall's comeback, gains 4-2 victory

The Cornwall Colts almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Carleton Place Canadians managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end.

Carleton Place led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Canadians' Vinny Post scored at 4:56 in the third period to put Carleton Place up 3-0.

The win by the Canadians clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

Carleton Place got the win behind a great game by Andy Sturtz, who had two goals and one assist. Sturtz scored the first of his two goals short handed at 13:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. The Canadians found themselves down a man on Post's slashing. Sturtz's next tally short handed made the score 4-2 Carleton Place with 1:35 left in the third period. Owen Stewart picked up the assist.

Carleton Place excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Canadians kept Cornwall's goalie busy throughout the game, and Denny Dubblestyne made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Carleton Place also got a goal from Jordan Larson as well. More assists for Carleton Place came via Tyson Stewart and Craig Pefley, who each chipped in one.

The Colts forced Carleton Place goalie Guillaume Therien to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Cornwall was helped by Peter Angelopoulos, who racked up one goal. Angelopoulos scored 18:02 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Carleton Place. Dean Derouchie assisted on the tally. Jay DAmour also scored for Cornwall. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Grant Cooper, Tanner Spink, and Marly Quince, who contributed one each.

Therien rejected 33 shots on goal for the Canadians. Carleton Place incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
