Carleton Place falls to Cornwall in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Cornwall Colts' Grant Cooper scored 5:24 into overtime to beat the Carleton Place Canadians, 3-2 (OT).

The win gave Cornwall a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Colts almost relinquished a two-score lead. Cornwall made the score 2-0 on a goal by Cooper at 5:49 in the second period. Carleton Place pulled to within 2-1 on a power play goal by Andy Sturtz at 5:11 in the third period.

Cooper had two goals to lead the Colts to victory.

Kevin Hope also scored for Cornwall. More assists for Cornwall came via Ross Craig, Lawson MacDonald, Jay DAmour, Tristen Elie, Zac Tierney, and Ryan Patulli, who contributed one each.

The Canadians' offense rang up 31 shots on Cornwall's net.

Carleton Place was helped by Stephen Baylis, who tallied one goal. Baylis scored on the power play 15:40 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Adam Lloyd picked up the assist. Carleton Place additionally got points from Sturtz, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Jordan Larson and Ryker Killins, who each chipped in one.

Denny Dubblestyne made 29 saves for the Colts on 31 shots. Cornwall incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Canadians' Guillaume Therien stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
