Leamington hangs on, beats LaSalle 3-1Vollmer Recreation Complex Wed, Apr 01, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Mitchell Amante gave the Leamington Flyers the lead in the first period, and the LaSalle Vipers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1. Leamington took over the lead for good with a goal by Amante at 1:25 in the first period. Chris Scott assisted on the tally.After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, LaSalle faces elimination next time out. Amante was all over the ice for the Flyers, as he grabbed two goals in the win. The Vipers were stymied by Leamington's netminder Michael Barrett, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. The solid play of Barrett will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.31. The Flyers stifled LaSalle's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Leamington also got a goal from Matthew Opblinger as well. In addition, Leamington received assists from Alex Friesen, who had two and J.P. Grineau and Colin Moore, who each chipped in one. The Vipers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Leamington was unable to stop LaSalle from sending pucks towards the net, and the Vipers eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. LaSalle was led by Nathan Savage, who scored the team's only goal. Savage scored 19:24 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Leamington. Brendan Harrogate picked up the assist. The Flyers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Paolo Battisti rejected 27 shots on goal for the Vipers. LaSalle incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
