Alex Mutton gave the Elmira Sugar Kings a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Stratford Cullitons when he scored 6:10 into the extra period. The win by Elmira broke a deadlock and gave the Sugar Kings a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series. Although Elmira was up by as many as two goals in the second period, Stratford kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Cullitons got to within 3-2 on a goal by Justin Graham at 2:14 in the third period. Mutton was all over the ice for the Sugar Kings, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Mutton scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. Elmira earned a power play opportunity when Jake Pleon was put in the box for slashing. Eric Palazzolo picked up the assist. Mutton's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Elmira with 13:50 left in. The Sugar Kings had gotten the advantage when Stratford's Carter Allen was sent off for hooking. Mitch Klie provided the assist. Elmira put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cullitons to score on any of their nine power plays. The Sugar Kings forced Stratford goalie Nicholas Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Elmira additionally got points from Klie, who also had one goal and one assist. Elmira also got a goal from Brodie Whitehead as well. In addition, Elmira received assists from Zac Coulter, who had two and Adam Brubacher and Mitch Wright, who each chipped in one. The Cullitons' offense rang up 43 shots on Elmira's net. Stratford also had goals scored by Deven Kropf and Hayden Broomhead, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stratford came via Jared Nash, Patrick McKelvie, Trevor Sauder, and Zach Van Louwe, who contributed one each. The Sugar Kings' Jonathan Reinhart stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Elmira incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For the Sugar Kings, Rob Kohli was ejected from the game. Caldwell rejected 29 shots on goal for Stratford. The Cullitons incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
