Robert Michel had two points to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 4-1 victory over the Gloucester Rangers. The win gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Senators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Ottawa forced Gloucester goalie Doug Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Ottawa also got points from Shawn Lynch, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ottawa also had goals scored by Connor Bebb and Brandon Watt, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Derek Varrin, Johnathan Kovacevic, Joey Champigny, and Jim Pearson, who each chipped in one. The Rangers were led by Jaren Burke, who scored the team's only goal. Burke scored 2:20 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Bobby Williams picked up the assist. Alexandre Savard-Belanger rejected 19 shots on goal for the Senators. Ottawa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Doug Johnston made 35 saves for Gloucester on 39 shots. The Rangers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
