Carleton Place rips Nepean, 7-1

The Carleton Place Canadians had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Nepean Raiders.

The win gave Carleton Place a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Adam Lloyd had one goal and three assists to lead the Canadians. Lloyd scored on the power play 6:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. Carleton Place had taken the advantage when Nepean's Brandon Belding got sent off for cross checking. Andy Sturtz assisted on the tally.

The Canadians forced Raiders' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 55 shots and forcing 48 saves. Francis Marotte made 32 stops and John Gilmer made 16.

Carleton Place additionally got points from David Eccles, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Sturtz, who also registered one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also had goals scored by Wesley Baker, who had two and Craig Pefley and Maxime StPierre, who scored one goal each. More assists for Carleton Place came via Devin Campbell, Vinny Post, Bryce VanHorn, and Ryker Killins, who each chipped in one and Andrew Dodson and Stephen Baylis, who contributed two each.

The Raiders were led by Adel Zivojevic, who scored the team's only goal. Zivojevic scored on the power play 2:58 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. Nepean had gotten the advantage when Carleton Place's StPierre was sent off for interference.

Guillaume Therien rejected 14 shots on goal for the Canadians. Carleton Place incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
