Leamington outlasts London, 5-4

The Leamington Flyers gutted out a close 5-4 win against the London Nationals.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Matthew Opblinger secured the win for Leamington with a goal in the third period.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, London faces elimination next time out.

Opblinger was all over the ice for the Flyers, as he registered two goals in the win.

Leamington pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 19 penalty minutes.

The Flyers forced the Nationals goalie Justin Tugwell to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Team could not crack London's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Eric Henderson also scored for Leamington. In addition, Leamington received assists from Mitchell Amante, who had two and Tyler Duarte, Kyle Quick, and Thomas Virban, who each chipped in one.

The Nationals were helped by Rai Di Loreto, who finished with one goal. Di Loreto scored 17:02 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Callum Ruddock provided the assist. Others who scored for London included Justin Murray, Tanner Ferreira, and Kevin Madden, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for London were Michael Woolley and Trevor Dulong, who contributed one each and Kyle L Robinson and Austin Kemp, who each chipped in two.

Trevor Wheaton recorded 25 saves for Leamington. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Muzzin was ejected from the game. Justin Tugwell made 44 saves for London on 49 shots. The Nationals incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
