Cornwall erases deficit to stun Hawkesbury, 4-3

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Cornwall Colts battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over the Hawkesbury Hawks.

Cornwall never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Colts was down 3-1 after a goal by Hawkesbury's Liam Alcalde at 6:57 in the second period. Cornwall tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Tanner Spink at 13:17 in the second period. The Colts got the game winner at 13:32 in the third period on a goal by Spink.

The win by Cornwall broke a deadlock and gave the Colts a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Cornwall got the win with help from a great game by Grant Cooper, who had two goals and one assist. Cooper scored the first of his two goals at 12:55 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Hawkesbury. Marly Quince provided the assist. Cooper's next tally made the score 4-3 Cornwall with 6:28 left in the third period. Jay DAmour assisted on the tally.

The Colts' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Hawkesbury power plays.

Cornwall additionally got points from Spink, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Kevin Hope, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Matthew Morin and Cameron Roth, who contributed one each.

The Hawks kept Cornwall's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brett Nichol made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Hawkesbury also got points from Jason Brochu, who also registered one goal and one assist and CJ Stubbs, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Pierre Ouellette and Hunter Racine, who each chipped in one.

The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Gunner Rivers rejected 22 shots on goal for Hawkesbury. The Hawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
