Cornwall boosted by Nichol's play in net, beats Hawkesbury 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Brett Nichol helped the Cornwall Colts defeat the Hawkesbury Hawks, 4-1.

With the win, Cornwall evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Hawkesbury's power play was ineffective against the Colts' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Cornwall was led by Kevin Hope, who finished with one goal. Hope scored 4:46 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cornwall. Cameron Roth picked up the assist.

Cornwall also got points from Marly Quince, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Lawson MacDougall also scored for Cornwall. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Ross Craig, Tristan Conrad, Lawson MacDonald, Jay DAmour, and Tristen Elie, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks kept the Colts' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nichol made 32 saves on 33 shots.

Hawkesbury was led by CJ Stubbs, who scored the team's only goal. Stubbs scored on the power play 9:35 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Cornwall. The Hawks had gained a power play chance when Craig was whistled for holding. Hunter Racine provided the assist.

Cornwall incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Hawkesbury's Gunner Rivers stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
