McCaw lifts Nepean over Smiths Falls, 3-1

Behind a great game by Luke McCaw, who had two goals, the Nepean Raiders defeated the Smiths Falls Bears, 3-1.

McCaw's tallies came at 12:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Nepean and 58 seconds into the third to make the score 3-1 Nepean.

The win by Nepean clinched the best of three series at 2-1.

The Raiders were led by goalie Francis Marotte, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. Marotte certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.63 entering the contest.

Nepean forced Smiths Falls goalie Michael Pinios to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Nepean also got a goal from Rory Garlasco as well. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Cody Calcagno, Chad Malinowski, Devin Fullum, Nicolas Vlahos, and Mac MacSorley, who contributed one each.

The Bears' offense rang up 35 shots on the Raiders' net.

Smiths Falls was led by Cole Busschaert, who scored the team's only goal. Busschaert scored 18:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Josh Leblanc provided the assist.

Nepean avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of zero power plays. The Bears' Pinios stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Smiths Falls ended with no penalties and went 0-for-0 on the power play.
