Wingham falls to Walkerton in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Walkerton Hawks pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Wingham Ironmen on a clutch goal by Jay Thomson.

With the win, Walkerton avoided elimination to make the series score 3-4 in the best of seven series.

The Hawks got the win behind a great game by Thomson, who had one goal and two assists. Thomson scored 7:32 into overtime to make the score 4-3 Walkerton. Brett Coulson provided the assist.

Others who scored for Walkerton included Brooks Nelthorpe, Chris Gillman, and Lauchlin Elder, who each put in one. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Reid Simmons, who had one and Calvin Penney, who had two.

Walkerton was unable to stop Wingham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ironmen eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Wingham was helped by Justin Jacklin, who finished with one goal. Jacklin scored 10:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brett Brophy picked up the assist. Wingham additionally got points from Brophy, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Greg Hansford also scored for Wingham. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Alex Kuntz and Broedy Karelse, who each chipped in one.

Erik Angeli recorded 41 saves for the Hawks. Walkerton incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ben Nelson made 26 saves for the Ironmen on 30 shots. Wingham incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
