Walkerton uses big games from Penney and Elder to down Wingham, 6-3

Behind two goals and one assist from Calvin Penney and one goal and one assist from Lauchlin Elder, the Walkerton Hawks downed the Wingham Ironmen 6-3.

Penney scored the first of his two goals at 19:09 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Jay Thomson provided the assist. Penney's next tally made the score 3-2 Walkerton with 16:47 left in the second period. Elder picked up the assist. Elder scored on the power play 19:57 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Walkerton. A holding penalty on Keifer MacInnes had put Walkerton on the power play. Penney provided the assist.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Wingham faces elimination next time out.

Walkerton also got points from Elder, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Walkerton also had goals scored by Nathan Kramer, CJ Arthur, and Austin Russell, who scored one goal each. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Josh Deyell, who had two and Carter Franks, Brett Coulson, and Reid Simmons, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks were unable to stop the Ironmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Wingham eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Ironmen were helped by Alex Kuntz, who registered two goals. Kuntz scored the first of his two goals at 8:28 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wingham. Broedy Karelse assisted on the tally. Kuntz's next tally made the score 3-3 with 6:57 left in the second period. Others who scored for Wingham included Brett Brophy and Ryan McNeil, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Holdyn Lansink and Jordan Skerrett, who contributed one each.

Erik Angeli rejected 32 shots on goal for Walkerton. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Walkerton, Deyell was ejected from the game. Wingham's starting goalie, Ben Nelson, made 16 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jaden Shrier, who stopped seven shots. The Ironmen incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
