Jay Thomson tallied one point to lead the Walkerton Hawks to a 4-1 victory over the Wingham Ironmen. The win by Walkerton broke a deadlock and gave the Hawks a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series. Walkerton stifled Wingham's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks kept the Ironmen's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Nelson made 28 saves on 32 shots. Walkerton additionally got points from Calvin Penney, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brett Coulson also scored for Walkerton. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Carter Franks and Ryan Hamelin, who contributed one each. Wingham was led by Justin Jacklin, who scored the team's only goal. Jacklin scored 31 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Walkerton. Brett Brophy picked up the assist. Walkerton's Erik Angeli stopped 22 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Walkerton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Baclay was ejected from the game. The Ironmen incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For Wingham, Jared Weishar was ejected from the game. |
