Decatur Blaze's comeback falls short, Soo Firehawks wins 5-3

Decatur Blaze almost clawed its way back from a three-goal deficit, but Soo Firehawks managed to pull out a 5-3 win in the end.

Soo Firehawks led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Soo Firehawks' Daniel Bachynsky scored at 8:48 in the second period to put Soo Firehawks up 3-0.

The win by Soo Firehawks clinched the best of three series at 2-0.

Matthew MacLaren had a great game for Soo Firehawks, netting two goals. MacLaren scored on the power play at 13:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Soo Firehawks and again while 19:07 into the third to make the score 5-3 Soo Firehawks.

Soo Firehawks forced Decatur Blaze goalie Matthew Hatcher to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Soo Firehawks also got points from Bachynsky, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Zach Eitrem, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Nick Gordon also scored for Soo Firehawks. Other players who recorded assists for Soo Firehawks were Mario Taranto, Cody Therrian, and Dustin Brown, who each chipped in one.

Soo Firehawks was unable to stop Decatur Blaze from sending pucks towards the net, and Decatur Blaze eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Decatur Blaze was helped by Curtis Schlereth, who had one goal. Schlereth scored on the power play 3:20 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Decatur Blaze had gotten the advantage when Soo Firehawks' Michael Mullen was sent off for tripping. Brandon Adler picked up the assist. Decatur Blaze additionally got points from Adler, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Decatur Blaze also got a goal from Luka Znidarsic as well. In addition, Decatur Blaze received assists from Dylan Farmer, John Urmetz, Shane Johnson, Ty Gehrken, and Micah Young, who contributed one each.

Soo Firehawks' Cody Call stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Soo Firehawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hatcher rejected 47 shots on goal for Decatur Blaze. Decatur Blaze incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
