Gibbs' big game bests Michigan Ice Dogs in 6-3 Motor City Monarchs win

Motor City Monarchs' Joseph Gibbs had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-3 win over Michigan Ice Dogs.

Gibbs scored at 19:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 15:14 into the second to make the score 3-1 Motor City Monarchs.

The win by Motor City Monarchs clinched the best of three series at 2-0.

Motor City Monarchs' penalty kill excelled, as Motor City Monarchs gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

Motor City Monarchs forced Michigan Ice Dogs goalie Christopher Boyd to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots.

Motor City Monarchs also got points from Anthony Wojciechowski, who also registered one goal and two assists. Tory Shand also scored for Motor City Monarchs. In addition, Motor City Monarchs received assists from Trevor Hillman, who had three and Trevor Pode, Derrick Treppa, and Adam Jonak, who each chipped in two.

Michigan Ice Dogs was led by Marc Rotondo, who racked up one goal and one assist. Rotondo scored on the power play 12:49 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Motor City Monarchs. Michigan Ice Dogs had gained a power play chance when David Hogan was whistled for interference. Spencer Godin picked up the assist. Michigan Ice Dogs also had goals scored by Johannes DeJongh and Dallas Fritz, who each put in one. More assists for Michigan Ice Dogs came via Brent Young, Hunter Oatman, Kyle Cuthrell, and Victor Sprindys, who contributed one each.

Motor City Monarchs' Stephan Demmers stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Motor City Monarchs incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors. Boyd recorded 48 saves for Michigan Ice Dogs. Michigan Ice Dogs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
