Motor City Monarchs outlasts Michigan Ice Dogs, 5-3

Motor City Monarchs gutted out a close 5-3 win against Michigan Ice Dogs.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Anthony Wojciechowski at 8:08 of the third period.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Michigan Ice Dogs faces elimination next time out.

Trevor Pode and Adam Jonak provided the spark for Motor City Monarchs, combining for three goals and two assists. Pode tallied two goals and Jonak also added one goal and two assists.

Motor City Monarchs' offense rang up 47 shots on Michigan Ice Dogs' net.

Motor City Monarchs additionally got points from Tory Shand, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jonak, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Motor City Monarchs received assists from Justin Session and Zach Kopinski, who each chipped in one.

Michigan Ice Dogs was led by Spencer Godin, who registered two goals. Godin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:53 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Motor City Monarchs. An interference penalty on Pode had put Michigan Ice Dogs on the power play. Marc Rotondo picked up the assist. Godin's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 13:58 left in the third period. Michigan Ice Dogs earned a power play opportunity when Corey Finnemore was put in the box for roughing. Rotondo assisted on the tally. Steven Dunn also scored for Michigan Ice Dogs. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan Ice Dogs were Joseph Russo and Victor Sprindys, who contributed one each.

Motor City Monarchs took out Tyler Skulley after he had made 13 saves and installed Collin Fritch in goal, where he finished with six saves and the win. Motor City Monarchs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Christopher Boyd made 42 saves for Michigan Ice Dogs on 47 shots. Michigan Ice Dogs incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
