Waterloo downs Guelph in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

Christian Mroczkowski gave the Waterloo Siskins a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Guelph Hurricanes when he scored 25 seconds into the extra period.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Guelph faces elimination next time out.

Waterloo overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Siskins fell behind 4-2 after a short handed goal by the Hurricanes' Matt Nightingale at 13:51 in the second period. Waterloo tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Kyle Betts at 11:55 in the third period.

Mroczkowski was all over the ice for the Siskins, as he tallied two goals and three assists in the win. Mroczkowski scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Guelph. A cross checking penalty on Patrick Kudla had put Waterloo on the power play. Danny Hanlon assisted on the tally. Mroczkowski's next tally on the power play made the score 6-5 Waterloo with 19:35 left in overtime. Betts picked up the assist.

The Siskins' offense rang up 40 shots on Guelph's net.

Waterloo also got points from Eric Cimino, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Evan Kearns, who also registered one goal and one assist, Betts, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Hanlon, who also had one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Evgeny Kiselev and Nick Trecroce, who contributed one each.

The Hurricanes kept Waterloo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kiselev made 33 saves on 38 shots.

Guelph was led by Brooker Muir, who finished with two goals and two assists. Muir scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph. The Hurricanes had gotten the advantage when the Siskins' Luke Gazzola was sent off for cross checking. Peyton Backus assisted on the tally. Muir's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Guelph with 11:15 left in the third period. Guelph earned a power play opportunity when Cimino was put in the box for roughing after whistle. Kudla picked up the assist. Guelph additionally got points from Backus, who also registered one goal and two assists. Guelph also got a goal from Dylan Sayle as well. More assists for Guelph came via Sebastian Stangherlin, who had one.

Waterloo incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Jeremie Lintner rejected 34 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Guelph incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
