LaSalle penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Strathroy

The Strathroy Rockets failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the LaSalle Vipers shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

The win gave LaSalle a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Vipers were sparked by Korey Morgan, who racked up one goal. Morgan scored 4:17 into the third period to make the score 3-2 LaSalle. Brett Langlois assisted on the tally.

LaSalle put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Strathroy to score on any of its 11 power plays. The Vipers kept the Rockets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mat Ouellet made 33 saves on 38 shots.

LaSalle also had goals scored by Daniel Beaudoin, who had two and Mark Manchurek and Manny Silverio, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Nikko Sablone, Nathan Savage, and Nathan Veres, who contributed one each.

Strathroy's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four LaSalle power plays. LaSalle was unable to stop the Rockets from sending pucks towards the net, and Strathroy eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

The Rockets were led by Sam Vokes, who had one goal and one assist. Vokes scored 1:27 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Eddie Schulz provided the assist. Joey Seney also scored for Strathroy. More assists for Strathroy came via Marcus Baird, who had one.

The Vipers' Paolo Battisti stopped 44 shots out of the 46 that he faced. LaSalle incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. The Vipers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chris Pignanelli was ejected from the game. Strathroy incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
