London wins tough contest against Chatham, 5-4

The London Nationals gutted out a close 5-4 win against the Chatham Maroons.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Austin Kemp at 15:33 of the third period.

The win gave London a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Kemp was all over the ice for the Nationals, as he finished with two goals in the win.

London pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

The Nationals forced Chatham goalie Jake Patterson to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

London additionally got points from Rai Di Loreto, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. London also had goals scored by Kyle L Robinson and Michael Woolley, who scored one goal each. More assists for London came via Derek Di Iorio, Justin Murray, Tanner Ferreira, Derek Todosichuk, Kevin Madden, Mitchell Kreis, Tanner Lafrance, and Drew Worrad, who contributed one each.

The Maroons kept London's goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Tugwell made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Chatham was helped by Brennan Feasey, who tallied one goal. Feasey scored 40 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Gus Ford picked up the assist. Chatham also got points from Ford, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Matt Clarke, who also had one goal and one assist. Chatham also got a goal from Ian Faubert as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Steven Szekesy, who had two and Trevor Richardson, Jared Dennis, Brayden Hopkins, and Brett Storr, who each chipped in one.

The Nationals registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Jake Patterson made 28 saves for the Maroons on 33 shots. Chatham incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
