Sarnia downs St. Thomas, 4-1

Nathan Mater finished with two points to lead the Sarnia Legionnaires to a 4-1 victory over the St. Thomas Stars.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, St. Thomas faces elimination next time out.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:43 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Sarnia's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four St. Thomas power plays. The Stars were unable to stop the Legionnaires from sending pucks towards the net, and Sarnia eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Sarnia also got points from Ryan Vendramin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Sarnia also had goals scored by Davis Boyer, Jordan Fogarty, and Hayden Allen, who each put in one. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Jay Clarke, Hunter Tyczynski, Jake O`Donnell, and Brandon Layman, who each chipped in one.

St. Thomas stifled the Legionnaires' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Stars were led by Andrew Chambers, who scored the team's only goal. Chambers scored 17:36 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. Jesse Anderson assisted on the tally.

Andrew Masters rejected 22 shots on goal for Sarnia. The Legionnaires totaled 52 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Team's Riley Babkirk and PJ Vandervaart were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Brendan Polasek made 30 saves for St. Thomas on 34 shots. The Stars ended with 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. For St. Thomas, Josh Houston and Dane Johnstone were ejected from the contest.
