Toronto Patriots beats St. Michaels 8-0 as Kovachis gets hat trick

Niko Kovachis lifted the Toronto Patriots Patriots to an 8-0 victory with a hat trick against the St. Michaels Buzzers.

Kovachis' first goal came 8:08 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:44 into the second and at 5:26 into the third.

The win gave Toronto Patriots a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Mathew Robson spearheaded the defensive effort for the Patriots, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 29 saves for the shutout. Robson managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.0 prior to the game.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:40 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Toronto Patriots forced St. Michaels' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 36 shots and forcing 28 saves. George Argiropoulos made 20 stops and Mark Manolescu made eight. The Patriots stifled the Buzzers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

Toronto Patriots additionally got points from Luke Carter, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jeremy Pullara, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Nico Gonzalez also scored for Toronto Patriots. More assists for Toronto Patriots came via Tyler Currie, Mario Ferraro, Mitch Emerson, Nicholas Geiser, and Marco Bozzo, who contributed one each and Jacob Hayhurst, Nathan Feric, and Quinn Syrydiuk, who each chipped in two.

Toronto Patriots totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 4-for-10 on the power play. Team's Marcus Rose and Nicholas Ursitti were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. St. Michaels totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Buzzers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Wright was ejected from the game.
