Whitby rips Dundas, 7-1

The Whitby Dunlops were firing on all cylinders against the Dundas Real McCoys, and when the final buzzer sounded Dunlops emerged with a 7-1 win.

With the win, Whitby avoided elimination to make the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series.

The Dunlops were led by goalie Jason Guy, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Guy certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.79 entering the contest.

Dundas' power play was ineffective against Whitby's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Dunlops' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Dundas power plays. Whitby's offense rang up 37 shots on the Real McCoys' net.

The Dunlops were helped by Adam Van Dam, who grabbed one goal. Van Dam scored on the power play 18:14 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Whitby. Whitby had taken the advantage when Dundas' Derek Matheson got sent off for interference. Scott Freeman picked up the assist. Whitby also got points from Freeman, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Patrick Jobb, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Jared Docking, who also registered one goal and two assists. Whitby also had goals scored by Peter MacKellar, Kyle Ventura, and Brett McConnachie, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Mike Pawlak and Shane Terry, who each chipped in one.

The Dunlops incurred 46 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steve Natywary was ejected from the game. Mike Mole recorded 30 saves for the Real McCoys. Dundas incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
