Kern's big game bests Vermont University of in 4-1 Penn State University win

Behind a great game by Darby Kern, who had two goals and two assists, the Penn State University Nitty Lions defeated the Vermont University of Catamounts, 4-1.

Kern scored at 13:55 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Penn State University and again while 4:37 into the second to make the score 3-0 Penn State University.

Penn State University forced Catamounts' netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 39 shots and forcing 35 saves. Audrey Currier made 14 stops and Rosalie Gluck made 21.

Penn State University also got points from Katherine Murphy, who also had one goal and two assists. Cara Mendelson also scored for Penn State University. In addition, Penn State University received assists from Ashton Schaffer and Kelly Watson, who each chipped in one.

Vermont University of stifled the Nitty Lions' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Catamounts found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 12 shots against Penn State University's defense.

Vermont University of was led by Nicole Beaudoin, who scored the team's only goal. Beaudoin scored 15:29 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Penn State University.

Mary Kate Tonetti made 11 saves for the Nitty Lions on 12 shots. Penn State University avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of four power plays. The Catamounts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
