Grand Valley State University hangs on, beats Michigan State University 2-0

Alex Brinkman gave the Grand Valley State University Lakers the lead in the first period, and the Michigan State University Spartans was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

A goal 17:51 into the first period by Brinkman proved to be the game winner, and powered Grand Valley State University to the victory. Karyn Schmaltz picked up the assist.

The Lakers were boosted by Lauren Allen, who turned in a shutout with 30 saves. Allen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.86 entering the contest.

Grand Valley State University was sparked by Brinkman, who registered one goal.

The Lakers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Michigan State University power plays.

Grand Valley State University also got a goal from Katie Danto as well. In addition, Grand Valley State University received assists from Corey Robison, who had one.
