Miami University uses early goal to top Michigan University of, 2-0

Kaley Mooney gave the Miami University RedHawks the lead in the first period, and the Michigan University of Wolverines was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Miami University took over the lead for good with a goal by Mooney at 19:10 in the first period. A tripping penalty on Rachel Hysong had put the RedHawks on the power play. Hayley Williams provided the assist.

Miami University was led by Mooney, who registered one goal.

The RedHawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Miami University was held below its usual level of production. The RedHawks put an average of 5.7 pucks into the net per game. Miami University forced Michigan University of goalie Kelsey Duggan to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Nicole Matthews also scored for Miami University. In addition, Miami University received assists from Kathleen Baldwin and Jordan Hanson, who each chipped in one.

The Wolverines' offense operated below their season average. Michigan University of averages 3.6 goals per game.

The RedHawks' Carly Vanorden stopped 22 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Miami University incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Duggan rejected 34 shots on goal for the Wolverines. Michigan University of incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
