New Hampshire beats Maine 4-3 after comeback scare

New Hampshire survived a determined comeback attempt by Maine on the way to a 4-3 win.

New Hampshire took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Maine storm back on a Zach Gagne goal 16:41 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win by New Hampshire clinched the best of three series at 2-1.

New Hampshire pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes.

New Hampshire's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Maine power plays. New Hampshire forced Maine goalie Lucas Osborne to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

New Hampshire was helped by Nicholas Bartholomew, who finished with one goal and one assist. Bartholomew scored 14:55 into the third period to make the score 4-2 New Hampshire. Mike Heffernan picked up the assist. New Hampshire also got points from Heffernan, who also had one goal and one assist and Brett Bittner, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. New Hampshire also got a goal from Mike Callaghan as well. Other players who recorded assists for New Hampshire were Alex Peddle and Nick Pino, who contributed one each.

Maine excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Maine was led by Matt Jerome, who tallied one goal and one assist. Jerome scored 8:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 New Hampshire. Ryder Parkhurst provided the assist. Ben Henderson also scored for Maine. More assists for Maine came via Noel Fischer and Joe Giannini, who each chipped in one.

New Hampshire's Claes Endre stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Lucas Osborne made 36 saves for Maine on 40 shots. Maine ended with 41 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Maine ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Fischer was ejected from the game.
