Huge game by Williams boosts Miami University over Grand Valley State University, 6-2

Behind a great game by Hayley Williams, who had two goals and two assists, the Miami University RedHawks defeated the Grand Valley State University Lakers, 6-2.

Williams scored at 4:49 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Miami University and again while 10:28 into the first to make the score 3-0 Miami University.

Miami University pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes.

The RedHawks stifled Grand Valley State University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Miami University got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Miami University additionally got points from Rachael Booth, who also registered two goals and one assist and Nicole Matthews, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Morgan Mcgrath also scored for Miami University. More assists for Miami University came via Becca Senden, who had one and Kaley Mooney, who had two.

The Lakers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the RedHawks to score on any of their four power plays. Grand Valley State University's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Lakers average 2.0 goals allowed per game.

Grand Valley State University was helped by Corey Robison, who racked up one goal. Robison scored 1:46 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Miami University. Kendra Myers picked up the assist. Grand Valley State University also got points from Myers, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Grand Valley State University received assists from Haley Keary, Allison Lowe, and Katie Danto, who contributed one each.

Miami University's Emalee Wills stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Lakers took out Lauren Allen after he had made 11 saves and installed Taylor Watson in goal, where he finished with seven saves and the loss. Grand Valley State University incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
