Exeter outlasts Mt.Brydges, 3-2

The Exeter Hawks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Austin Elkin secured the win for Exeter with a goal in the third period.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Mt.Brydges faces elimination next time out.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Exeter gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Hawks were led by Elkin, who registered one goal. Elkin scored on the power play 4:53 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Exeter. Exeter earned a power play opportunity when Tyler Lockwood was put in the box for head contact. Jon Baker provided the assist.

The Hawks kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Paul Town made 42 saves on 45 shots. Team could not crack Mt.Brydges' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Exeter additionally got points from Max Naus, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tyler Kettler also scored for Exeter. In addition, Exeter received assists from Trevor Thornton, Christopher Pfaff, and Tyler Coleman, who contributed one each.

The Bulldogs forced Exeter goalie James Morreau to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Mt.Brydges was helped by Cameron Dewan, who finished with one goal. Dewan scored 2:05 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Collin Baillie picked up the assist. Mt.Brydges also got a goal from Brody Smith as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mt.Brydges were Connor Dunn, Sean Candler, and Joey Doxtator (APM), who each chipped in one.

Morreau rejected 36 shots on goal for the Hawks. Exeter incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Bulldogs incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
