Blenheim falls to Amherstburg in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Amherstburg Admirals' Mark Gangnon scored 14:47 into overtime to beat the Blenheim Blades, 4-3 (OT).

The win gave Amherstburg a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Admirals were led by Jordan Luciw, who finished with one goal. Luciw scored 8:00 into overtime to make the score 5-3 Amherstburg. Gangnon provided the assist.

Amherstburg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Blenheim to score on any of its four power plays.

Amherstburg also got points from Gangnon, who also registered one goal and one assist, Luke Gangnon, who also had one goal and one assist, and Chad Copeland, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cole Martyniuk also scored for Amherstburg. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Ryan Alexander, who had two and Mark Sobocan, James Brooks, and Kasey Basile, who contributed one each.

The Blades forced the Admirals goalie Gianfranco Donato to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Blenheim was helped by Teddy McGeen, who finished with one goal. McGeen scored 9:52 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Amherstburg. Zack Horvath assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Blenheim included Justin Baker and Corbin Hagerman, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Matt Clark, Kirk McKillop, Nolan VandenBoorn, and Derek Muzzatti, who each chipped in one.

Gianfranco Donato made 29 saves for Amherstburg on 32 shots. The Admirals incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Klinton Kenney rejected 24 shots on goal for the Blades. Blenheim incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
