Dundas hangs on, beats Dunnville 3-1Niagara Jr. C Head Office Thu, Feb 19, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Dundas Blues beat the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Dundas took over the lead for good with a goal by Ryan Waterhouse at 12:21 in the first period. Ray Thompson assisted on the tally.The win gave the Blues a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Dunnville was stymied by Dundas' netminder Brock Novak, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. Novak managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.0 prior to the game. The Blues' penalty kill excelled, as Dundas gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. The Blues forced the Jr. Mudcats goalie Josh Rosettani to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Dundas was helped by Connor King, who grabbed one goal. King scored on the power play 3:35 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Dundas. The Blues had gained a power play chance when Luke Rowe was whistled for tripping. Waterhouse provided the assist. Dundas additionally got points from Waterhouse, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dundas also got a goal from Alex Aquin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dundas were Mitch Moriarity and Cam McConnell, who each chipped in one. Dundas was unable to stop Dunnville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Mudcats eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Dunnville was led by Steven Czepek, who scored the team's only goal. Czepek scored on the power play 10:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dundas. The Jr. Mudcats had gotten the advantage when the Blues' King was sent off for goalie interference. Dan Arrowsmith picked up the assist. Dundas incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Blues ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dan Pelosini was ejected from the game. Dunnville's Rosettani stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Jr. Mudcats incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
