Schomberg holds on for 5-3 win against Penetang

The Penetang Kings tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Schomberg Cougars held on for a 5-3 victory.

A goal by Mitchell Robinson put Schomberg up 5-2 in the third period, but Penetang pulled to within two on Michael Paul's tally 12:44 into the third period.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, the Kings face elimination next time out.

The Cougars' penalty kill excelled, as Schomberg gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

The Cougars stifled Penetang's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Schomberg was helped by JP Crescenzi, who registered one goal. Crescenzi scored 7:18 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Schomberg. Cam Russell picked up the assist. Schomberg also got points from Russell, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Schomberg included Nicholas Chaykowsky and Tanner Smith, who scored one goal each. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Derek Neilly, Joseph Mete, Tristan Joseph, John Gage, and Ryley Egerton, who contributed one each.

The Kings' offense rang up 37 shots on the Cougars' net. Penetang got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Penetang also had goals scored by Hayden Cole and Mackenzie Bumstead, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Penetang were Graham Haley, Zach Bertucca, Matt Meher, and Ryan Hackett, who each chipped in one.

Taylor Ewart made 34 saves for Schomberg on 37 shots. The Cougars incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Adam Redgate rejected 19 shots on goal for the Kings. Penetang incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. For the Kings, Brad Kuepfer was ejected from the game.
