Schomberg holds on for 3-1 win against PenetangTrisan Centre Thu, Feb 19, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Penetang Kings tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Schomberg Cougars held on for a 3-1 victory. Schomberg made the score 3-0 on a goal by Brandon Yorke at 15:08 in the second period, and Penetang got as close as 3-1 when Brad Kuepfer scored 2:18 into the third period. The win gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Schomberg was led by goalie Taylor Ewart, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. Ewart managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.48 prior to the game. The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 10 chances. Schomberg's offense rang up 39 shots on the Kings' net. The Cougars were helped by Declan Lampe, who tallied one goal. Lampe scored short handed 2:37 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Schomberg. Schomberg found itself down a man on Connor Whiteside's slashing. Schomberg additionally got points from Blake Culley, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Nicholas Chaykowsky, who had one and John Gage, who had two. Penetang forced the Cougars goalie Ewart to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. More assists for Penetang came via Kyle Dedecker and Matt VanBoven, who contributed one each. Schomberg incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Kings' Adam Redgate stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Penetang incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
